Chan House
Tofino, BC: 2008
2400 square feet
This 2400 sq. ft. house is sited in the heart of a mixed old growth rain forest on the west coast of Vancouver Island, British Columbia. The house is a family gathering place for an extended family of three generations. The plan of the house wraps around several giant red cedars on the north side of the house and the simple shed roof rises up to the towering giants that are in some cases 8 feet in diameter. The house is a natural extension of the forest it sits in, both in form and in the material use of cedar shingles and cedar siding.
