CANOE HOUSE
Gulf Islands, BC : 1985
4000 square feet

The heroic image of the west coast with its massive timbers and its filtered forest light were major form givers to this space. Its antecedent is instantly recognizable as the Coastal First Nations Long House. The movement from exterior to interior is exaggerated and dramatized by a strong axial cut through the forest , framed by a log and timber arcade.
