Mikes Baron House
The site for this custom residential design is in the mountain area of Whistler, BC with varied topography including a beautiful platform of sculpted granite, great views and light to the east and crown land forest to the west. The owners of the house are both naturalists with strong environmental aesthetics. It was important to them that the house both have and appear to have minimal impact on the site. The design was approached with this sensibility in mind and a play with metaphors drawn from their lives; for him – a river rafting guide – Blue Sky Architecture developed a curving plan form through granite outcrop, and for her – a naturalist and bird expert – the bedroom bay perches on a massive single log post, much like a bird house.
